This spiced peaches and cream oatmeal is creamy, delicious, and all about the sweet late summer peaches and fall spices!
Not quite sure what’s going on in my head, but I’m reminiscing about breakfasts I used to have when I was a kid. I remember opening up those brown paper bags filled with dried oatmeal, sugar, and cinnamon and adding boiling water…remember those? From a mixed box, the peach version was one of my top favorite flavors. This spiced peaches and cream oatmeal, however, is my adult take on the old classic, devoid of added sugars, and completely satisfying. It’s also a delicious summer breakfast that gives me energy for any task I have planned for the day.
Why This Recipe Is Better Than My Childhood Memories
There was something absolutely incredible delicious about those childhood memories of this special treat. It was almost like the peaches were over the top, the sugar was over the top, and if you were like me, you may have needed not one but two packets. It’s amazing how much sugar was allowed in those! This recipe is so much better than that, plus you don’t get the sugar spike. Peaches are in season right now (on the East Coast) and they are fragrant, almost like flowers. Any peach will do (I’ve recently fallen in love with donut peaches) but you can also sub nectarines as well.
The creamyness comes from plain, unsweetened almond yogurt. I love adding a little spice to it, just to give it even more flavor, but you can switch it up if you’d like. I add cinnamon, but cardamom, nutmeg, or a mixture all go well here. The sugar substitute here is cooked banana, which is super sweet and and even adds a depth of flavor to the oatmeal.
