This tahini dressing (plus variations) is super easy to whip up and so versatile!

tahini dressing

I’ve been making tahini dressing for years, but once I started to really measure my meals, I was looking for an easy formula to take out the guess work. It follows a fun equation that you can then add layers to, such as herbs, chipotle, and more. This tahini dressing (plus variations) is also a really easy-going recipe that can easily go over salads, as a dip, used in collard wraps, in sandwiches, sautéed veggies as a sauce, anything you can think of!

THE FORMULA FOR TAHINI DRESSING, GENERALLY SPEAKING

Tahini loves lemon and garlic. That’s basically it. It’s so easy to remember too.

SUMMER TAHINI GREEN GODDESS DRESSING

Just add a handful of herbs to the plain tahini dressing dressing, such as: dill, chives, basil, tarragon. I love a combo of all of the above! You may have to add a little more water to get everything mixed well.

SMOKY TAHINI CHIPOTLE DRESSING

To the plain tahini dressing recipe, add one or two chipotles in adobo sauce, or 1 tsp-tablespoon (depending on how spicy you like it) of the adobo sauce.

FRESH TAHINI DILL DRESSING

To the plain tahini dressing recipe, just add a handful of dill and blend.

ITALIAN TAHINI DRESSING

To the plain tahini dressing recipe, add a handful of sun-dried tomatoes.

CHIPOTLE, LIME AND CILANTRO TAHINI DRESSING

In the plain tahini dressing recipe, replace the lemon with a lime, and add in a handful of cilantro and one chipotle in adobo sauce.

THIS RECIPE GOES REALLY WELL WITH:

  • Smoky Chickpeas
  • Zucchini Chickpea Fritters
  • With Roasted Cabbage Steaks with Tahini and Caraway
  • Over greens plus Creamy Chickpea Salad
  • Simply over some Cooked Beans
  • Massaged Kale and Marinated Mustard Tempeh
  • Try it over your favorite lentil pasta and steamed veggies
  • My favorite, though, is the marriage of the simple tahini dressing (original) over massaged kale, vegan sausage, and kraut. Recipe coming soon!
  • Serve it over your absolute favorite veggies, like this:

Equipment

  • Personal Blender

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup tahini
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 2 pinches salt, or more to taste
  • 3 garlic cloves

Instructions

  • Process everything in a mini personal sized blender, if you have one. Alternatively, you can use a food processor, but a blender is best. Taste for seasoning. You're done! Otherwise, feel free to use the plain tahini dressing and add in the following variations:
  • Summer tahini green goddess dressing: To the original plain tahini dressing, just add a handful of herbs to the dressing, such as: dill, chives, basil, tarragon. I love a combo of all of the above! You may have to add a little more water to get everything mixed well.
  • Smoky tahini chipotle dressing: To the original plain tahini dressing, add one chipotle in adobo sauce, or 1 tsp-tablespoon (depending on how spicy you like it) of the adobo sauce.
  • Fresh Tahini Dill Dressing: To the original plain tahini dressing, just add a handful of dill and blend.
  • Italian Tahini Dressing: To the original plain tahini dressing, add a handful of sundried tomatoes
  • Chipotle, lime, and cilantro tahini dressing: In the original plain tahini dressing, replace the lemon with a lime, add in a handful of cilantro and one chipotle in adobo sauce.

Notes

For those measuring, I like to use 1 ounce of this dressing as my fat portion.

Note: it will thicken when refrigerated. Feel free to thin it out with more water if needed.
