What is a CSA?
A CSA (otherwise known as Community Supported Agriculture) is way of sharing a farmers crops with local consumers. Crops could be veggies, fruits, or in this case, flowers. It has many benefits, the first being that you can buy directly from the farmer for a cheaper cost, with fresher blooms in a more sustainable way than having blooms shipped from abroad. For this product, it is a subscription to a weekly bouquet of seasonal blooms.
Why buy local flowers when I can get them from the store?
We offer local, sustainable blooms to our local community, directly from the farmer (Andreea). Currently, almost 80% of the flowers sold in the United States come from other countries. Purchasing local flowers means you can grab your bouquet hours after the blooms were picked (that’s fresh!) This saves time, shipping, and gas, and is much better for the environment.
Here are some more benefits of joining a flower CSA:
1. Produce and blooms are fresh: by the time blooms hit a store, they may have been in transit for weeks. Buying local from a CSA means the blooms are fresh and more vibrant.
2. You are supporting local farmers and their products
4. You get more variety in your blooms (for example, shops usually sell one type of gladiolus or daffodil, while farmers often have unique, exotic varieties such as double blooms, red and yellow blooms, pink, cream, and more)
5. It’s interactive: you can ask the farmer questions and have a direct line of communication
6. Price: The arrangements are usually more bountiful and artistically arranged than from large stores, typically for a smaller fee.
7. Sustainability and eco-conscious: Farmers will use more sustainable methods (such as paper over plastic, etc.) Also, purchasing from a CSA, you avoid the time, travel and gas associated with big box store blooms that are shipped from far away.
